Papers, 1833-1884.

This collection of manuscript material includes a folio ledger of 237 leaves containing accounts with Bacon's clients in the period from February 19, 1841 to June, 1860. Among his more active client accounts were those of the Oxford Woolen Manufacturing Co., Samuel Slater and Sons, William Sigourney and Co., the estate of Richard Olney, the Elisha Olney Trust Fund, the Laura Paine Trust fund, and the estate of his father, Jepthah Bacon. The octavo volumes include an office journal, July 2, 1845 to February 23, 1847, with notes by Bacon on office visits and legal work; Bacon's copy of _The Lawyers' Common-Place Book_ (Boston, 1845) with many manuscript notes; an undated volume of notes on legal topics, arranged alphabetically; and a court docket book for the Bacon and Barton office, listing cases from 1849 to 1853. A folder contains some forty-seven letters addressed to Bacon. Most of the letters deal with legal affairs, though there are some interesting letters from his son Henry, written in 1867 from Salt Lake City, Fort Boise, San Francisco, and Camp C.F. Smith, Oregon. There are also some legal documents, checks, a few miscellaneous items and an 1845 catalog of Peter C. Bacon's law library.
